8/30/2008RVC & FRIENDS ENJOY A TASTE OF THE ROGUE VALLEY
What could be better than to spend a leisurely afternoon picnicking in a vineyard while we sampled wonderful wines paired with tasty foods & chocolates made right here in the Rogue Valley? Doing it with 14 of our fellow RVC members and 6 guests, that’s what! And that’s just what we did on Saturday, August 30th, when Paul & I led the way to the Agate Ridge Vineyard in Eagle Point for our own “Taste of the Rogue Valley”.
If you haven’t visited this quaint winery, you are missing a delightful experience. Not only are the wines delicious but the owners & staff make you feel like family. Sharryl Sanders-Giossi, the Agate Ridge Tasting Room Representative who helped me put this event together, was an indispensable resource when it came to pairing the foods and wines to bring out the best in both. While we enjoyed tasting three of the Agate Ridge white wines, including their award winning Viognier, we sampled a pesto torta from Rising Sun Farms (Phoenix) and a chocolate stout cheddar cheese from the Rogue Creamery (Central Point) , complimented by gourmet focaccia crackers from Deux Chats (Ashland). Sharryl went above & beyond by preparing a fresh tomato balsamic salad for us. With three Agate Ridge red wines, we sampled two flavors of Dagoba chocolates (Ashland) and two different truffles from The Chocolate Beagle (Central Point). Somewhere in between the white wines and the red wines, we enjoyed our picnics, did quite a bit of tee shirt shopping and, as usual, had a great time together.
To cap off the day, we elected Bob Kush to lead our colorful Corvette caravan through the countryside to Jacksonville so we could have one more culinary treat, the freshly made gelato at the Mama Mia Gelateria! Thank you all for joining us for a Taste of the Rogue Valley.
