CORVETTES ON THE BAY

Winners: Bob Reinke, Dan Richards & Larry Tupper

Going to the coast is always a treat but this year the Corvettes On the Bay Event rose to a new high. Nine RVC cars ventured to the annual Pacific Coast Corvette Event on Coos Bay.

Friday night’s barbecue was held at Basendorff Beach Park where we all had a chance to renew acquaintenances from other clubs. The weather cooperated, it was very pleasant and, as usual, the food was plentiful.

After the barbecue, we all retired to the parking lot of the Edgewater Hotel and gathered around the fire pit, yes a fire pit. Member Dan Richards hosted a Trailer Hospitality Venue which included the camp fire. Our circle grew as the evening wore on. President Jim Pack couldn’t remember his room number but did know that he was next door to the Christie’s. After receiving kidding about that – the receptionist came out looking for a “Jim Pack” – seems that Jim lost his wallet and she was returning it to him.. Marilyn threatened to take his credit cards away.

As the evening wore on the drizzling rain started – but that didn’t deter us – we simply put up the canopy and all moved our chairs under cover. When the rain really began to fall we decided to call it a night. As we were putting things away a really nice Nikon camera was orphaned. Dan asked everyone and no one thought it was theirs then lo and behold guess who realized that it was his – yes Mr. Pack struck again. It was a rough night for Jim.

Saturday morning started off with the poker run and none of us were lucky at cards. The Show n Shine commenced at 1:00 with 72 cars on display. Three of RVC cars won awards; Dan Richards for his 1962 black beauty; Dan and Andrea Tupper for their 50th Anniversary Convertible and Bob & Debbie Reinke for their Leman Blue Z06. Congratulations to all. Our group was lucky however in the raffle drawings – good thing Dan had the trailer to haul our winnings home. The Wiggins and the Guches joined the group at the Car Show – what a way to spend the first day of their vacation. The Americana Club out of Chico won the club participation award with 19 cars.

Saturday night the traveling group went to dinner at Ciccarelli’s and then followed that again with a round up at the campfire.

Thanks to the Pacific Coast Corvette Club for a great time.
